Position Title: Labor RN

  1. General job duties. Types of procedures required.

Knowledgeable about the birthing process, able to assist the expecting mother during childbirth and labor, monitor fetal heart rate and mothers well being. Assess cervical dilation. Assess patients, prioritize and assist in procedures, familiar with contraction monitoring, manage patient admission process, triage expecting mothers, communicate with doctors and patients and families. Collaborate care with the multidisciplinary team. Circulate csection deliveries, recover immediate postpartum c section and vaginal deliveries. Care for patients with obstetrical emergencies.

Care for postpartum mothers and their newborns, provide breast and bottlefeeding education and assistance. Assist physicians with circumcisions.

Cerner- EMR, Fetal Link- Fetal monitoring

  1. Required skills and minimum years of experience.

Minimum 2 years experience as a labor RN

  1. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)

BLS, ACLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring

  1. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)

Three 12 hour night shifts per week, 3 call shifts per 6 week schedule, Every other weekend

  1. Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)

9 LDRP, 9 Postpartum/gyne rooms, 4 bed Level 2 nursery

  1. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)

3-4 couplets, 1-2 labor patients

Hospital issued scrubs
