  1. General job duties

Surgical unit specializing in general post surgery, neuro, and oncology

Common diagnoses/types of patients:

post-surgical patients (may be pt's admitted prior to surgery or those who are admitted after recovered in PACU), neuro surgical, post radical head and neck surgery with fresh and established (MUST HAVE experinece with basic trach cares), post interventional radiology procedures, post kypho, post urology with continious bladder irrigation, small bowel obstruction

Post stroke, acute mental status chamge (dementia, stroke, confusion, etc.) AKI, stomas and osteomy cares, chest tubes, NG management (very common to see on this unit), JP drains, wound vacs (has team to help cover wound vacs and team takes call so can help trouble shoot after hours)

Oncology wing which can include new oncology dx and current cancer needs, hematology (sickle cell), immuno supressed, surgical bx resulting in oncology needs. Some pt's may require chemo. Chemo and radiation nurses will manage unless traveler is chemo certified and has chemo experience.

  1. Equipment

Computer charting: EPIC, OMNI cell medication dispersement, POC testing

  1. Required skills/licensures/certs

BLS, NIHSS

2 years minimum experience with previous travel experience; Prefer similar size hospital and unit experience. This is a very fast paced unit with multiple discharges and admissions.

Basic trach care and suctioning experience preferred as well as expereince managing post-op patient populations

  1. Shift/schedule requirements

12 hour shifts, every other weekend, no call

  1. Floating?

May float to Medical (4100) or other M/S units/roles

  1. Bed size

43 private rooms

  1. Nurse to patient ratio

days 1:6 can be 7 at times, nights 1 to7-8

  1. Dress Code

Royal blue scrubs. Long/short sleeve under shirt/scrub jackets may be worn in the color of white, black, grey, or royal blue
