  1. General job duties. Types of procedures required.

4G is a 23 bed general status medical unit primarily caring for patients who come in with strokes. We also deliver care to patients who need an EEG completed, and have 4 EEG monitoring rooms in our department. Additionally, we care for patients who have back/neck surgeries, brain surgeries, and those who come in as trauma patients needing care. General medical patients are also seen on the unit. The average length of stay is 3-4 days with some patients staying 2 weeks to a month intermittently depending on placement needs. The patient population allows for nurses to care for a variety of neurological issues, and provides opportunities for advocating for patients who often cannot do so for themselves. We work closely with our social work, clinical ethic and therapy teams to provide a holistic care environment in which all needs are addressed.

Nursing Skills developed on the unit include-Neurological assessments, NIH stroke scale assessments, central lines, TPN, drain care, ostomy/ileostomy cares, IV's, dressing changes, NGs, keofeds, medication management, stroke education, post TPA care after initial 24 hours in ICU, and post operative cares

  1. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)

Electronic Health Record - Cerner System and use of bedside bar code administration

Defibrillators, bed scales, cautery, stand up scales, infusion pumps, IV equipment, suction equipment, intubation equipment, central lines, biopsy instruments, capnography and CPAP.

  1. Required skills and minimum years of experience.

At least 1 year of experience on a Medical-Surgical unit

  1. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)

Current and active IL license required as well as BLS

  1. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)

Every other weekend rotation is expected. Shift to be determined at the time of request

36 Hours per week

No call

Employee will always work with a team of nurses, patient care technicians, and a unit secretary

  1. Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)

Will need to be flexible to assist with staffing on other Medical-Surgical units
