  1. General job duties. Types of procedures required.

The ED is a fast paced area that sees on average 185 patients per day. The department has 56 licensed beds who sees pediatric and adult patients with various acuity. The ED is designated as a Level 1 trauma center seeing just over 1,200 declared trauma patients per year. The chief reasons for being seen in the ED are stroke, heart attacks, sepsis, pneumonia, extremity fractures, trauma, mental health emergency, resusciation and procedural sedation. The department works as a team side by side with physicians, nurses, technicians, respiratory therapists, social workers, pharmacists and other health care professionals.

Nursing skills obtained while working in the ED: Deep sedation monitoring, blood administration, ultrasound line placement, rapid infuser, central lines, cardiac rhythm interpretation, triaging patients, decontamination, critical care medication administration.

  1. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)

Electronic Health Record - Cerner System and use of bedside bar code administration

Defibrillators, telemetry, infusion pumps, arterial lines, IV equipment, suction equipment, central lines, capnography, CPAP/bipap, rapid fluid infuser/warmer, bedside bladder scanner, bedside ultrasound machine.

  1. Required skills and minimum years of experience.

Prefer 1 year of RN hospital experience with preference to critical care/ED

  1. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)

Current IL license required as well as BLS, ACLS, PALs/ENPC, TNCC preferred.

  1. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)

Shifts are 0645-1915, 1045-2315, 1445-0315 and 1845-0715

Every other weekend rotation is expected.

Employee will always work with a team or nurses, patient care technicians, and a unit secretary

56 licensed beds, overflow utlitized when at peak census

  1. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)

Depends on total patients in the department but typically 1: 4 to 5 patients.

Classroom training for computer charting and quality indicators is provided along with 24hrs of unit specific orientation
